Estimating a DIBOL to C Conversion

Conversion Budgetary Estimate

Migration Specialties can provide you with a budgetary estimate of the cost of converting your DIBOL applications to C using CBL under the OpenVMS environment. To obtain a budgetary estimate, you simply provide us with information concerning the number and type of modules used in each application. Please provide us with as much information concerning the applications as possible. The more information you provide, the more accurately we can estimate the conversion effort.

The budgetary estimate provides the estimated conversion cost in a range. For example, a budgetary estimate might indicate that it will cost between $20,000 and $25,000 to convert your applications. Generation of a budgetary estimate is a free service.

When providing material for a budgetary estimate, please include the following information:

• A brief description of each application.
• The number of DIBOL program modules in each application.
• The number of external DIBOL subroutines used by each application.
• The number of include files used in each application.
• The number of non-DIBOL modules used in each application.
  • The programming language in which the non-DIBOL modules are written.
  • The type of interface used by the non-DIBOL modules.
• The number of DCL command procedures associated with each application.
• Information on any other items that pertain to the application and its use under OpenVMS.

Conversion Feasibility Study

Your second option is to submit a copy of your software to Migration Specialties for analysis. We will analyze the software applications and generate a Conversion Feasibility Study that estimates the cost to convert them to C using CBL under the OpenVMS environment. The report will also make conversion recommendations based on our findings and indicate any areas where there might be problems in the conversion process.

A Conversion Feasibility Study is required if you would like to obtain a fixed-price quote for a turnkey conversion service.

A fee is charged for the Conversion Feasibility Study. The fee can be applied as a credit towards other conversion services purchased from Migration Specialties.

Sample Conversion

If you need to see a sample conversion to prove that the CBL DIBOL to C conversion process is capable of satisfying your needs, contact us and request it. We will work with you to obtain a sample of your code, convert it, and demonstrate it. A fee is charged for this service. The fee can be applied as a credit towards other conversion services purchased from Migration Specialties.
